Nova engineers visit turbine in Meteghan River

Updated: Apr 12

Throughout the months of February and March 2024, engineers from Nova Innovation conducted maintenance and upgrade work on the turbine, currently in storage at the A.F. Theriault & Sons shipyard in Meteghan River, Nova Scotia.  This work was necessary to prepare the turbine for installation in 2024.

The work carried out involved upgrading the primary seal set on the turbine. Operational experience at Nova’s Shetland Tidal Array indicated that far greater service intervals could be achieved with the upgraded technology. This key change would enable the Nova Tidal Array to increase the time between recovery and maintenance events; generating more cost effective, green electricity to the Nova Scotian grid.

Partnerships with local companies are essential in developing the knowledge and capacity to support a tidal energy sector in Nova Scotia.  Nova is grateful for the excellent support and expertise provided by staff at the A.F. Theriault & Sons shipyard, as we continue planning and preparations for deploying the turbine in 2024.
