Nova meets with Tiverton Village

Updated: Apr 12

On January 25, 2024, Nova Innovation met with the Tiverton Village Commission and interested local residents, to provide an update on plans to deploy the turbine in 2024.  At this meeting, Nova reviewed detailed plans showing the steps involved in installing the turbine.

In summary, this entails: moving the existing substructure into its final position in the passage and adding ballast, transporting the turbine nacelle across St. Mary’s Bay from Meteghan River, lowering the nacelle onto the substructure and making the final cable connections to the existing station on shore in East Ferry.

A discussion and Q&A period followed, during which more details concerning installation and operation of the turbine were provided.

As planned, the process would take about 10 days, during which Nova and its contractors would be working in the passage.  The final installation timeframe will be determined by: the availability of contractors and the deployment vessel, and the timing of the appropriate neap tide.  Although this work should not disrupt ferry or local fishing traffic, all necessary navigation notices will be made to inform mariners of this work.

Ensuring local residents, officials, fishers and other users of Petit Passage understand what to expect, is an important part of planning this operation.
